Dr. Mark L. Skowron
Dr. Skowron is from a family of seven, and attended Willowbrook High School in Villa Park and went to Western llinois University where he graduated with honors receiving a Bachelors of Science degree. He attended the Illinois College of Optometry and earned his Doctor of Optometry Degree in 1981. He purchased the practice of his childhood optometrist in 1983, creating Skowron Eye Care.
Dr. Skowron has been a clinical investigator for various contact lens and solution companies, served on numerous state committees, and is a member of both the Illinois and American Optometric Associations, and the Illinois Society of the Prevention of Blindness. He served as President of the West Suburban Optometric Association from 1995 to 2005, which is a society that contains over 120 local optometrists. He is a current member of the Lions Club and the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce. He regularly donates his time helping the elderly and less fortunate.
His areas of advanced studies are contact lenses, ocular disease including retina and glaucoma, and pediatrics. He has extensive experience in Co-managing and consulting Cataract and LASIK surgeries. Dr. Skowron had LASIK performed on himself in 1998. He enjoys most outdoor activities especially golf and
skiing.
Dr. Kerry John
Dr. John is the youngest of a family of five and was raised in Clarendon Hills, IL and attended Benet Academy. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Indiana University in Bloomington, with a minor in Psychology; she is a member of Delta Gamma sorority. She attended the Illinois College of Optometry, where she served as a class representative and the student body president. She graduated in 2000 with her Doctor of Optometry degree and completed in 2001, a post-doctoral residency program in Primary Care and Ocular Disease at the Illinois Eye Institute.
Dr. John provides comprehensive ocular health exams for people of all ages, with an interest in specialty contact lens fitting and ocular disease. She is a part-time instructor at the Illinois College of Optometry and formerly a contact lens instructor for medical residents at Rush University Medical Center. As a former Associate Director for a refractive surgery practice, she has co-managed hundreds of LASIK and PRK patients.
She is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a member of the American Optometric Association and the Illinois Optometric Association.
Dr. Thomas Carr
Dr. Carr grew up in the state of Pennsylvania. He attended Marshall University where he earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Biology. Dr. Carr received his Doctor of Optometry Degree from the Illinois College of Optometry in 1990 while graduating with honors.
Dr. Carr has been practicing Optometry at Skowron Eye Care since graduating Optometry School. He is also the owner and primary practitioner at his own practice in the far west suburbs.
Dr. Carr provides comprehensive ocular health examinations for all ages. His interests are fitting all types of contact lenses, ocular disease diagnosis and treatment as well as co-management of Lasik patients. He is an active member of the American and the Illinois Optometric Association.
His hobbies are playing guitar and the great outdoors. He resides in Westmont with his wife and three boys.
Dr. Lavender Streiff
Dr. Streiff was born in Kansas and grew up in Glenview, IL. After attending Augustana College, she received a Bachelors Degree in Biology / Pre-Optometry. Dr. Streiff earned a Doctorate Degree and graduated magna cum laude from the Illinois College of Optometry (ICO).
Following graduation, she completed a residency at the San Francisco VA where she concentrated in ocular disease, contact lenses and low vision.
Dr. Streiff provides comprehensive vision and eye health exams to children and adults at two locations in the Chicago suburbs. She is also a part-time clinical instructor at her alma mater, ICO. By providing eye care and teaching students at the college, Dr. Streiff is able to fulfill her life's goal of helping people.
Dr. Streiff was awarded fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry. She is an active member of both the American and Illinois Optometric Associations, the Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness, and the Optometric Honor Society Beta Sigma Kappa.
